The third day of the condors – I get up at 4.30 AM to and I am out before sunrise. A beautiful morning with pink skies and the Kelp Gulls already outside the hide at arrival. Daybreak and excitement – light conditions can not be better. This is what I have been waiting for – the peak experience with the Andean Condors is about to take place!
At six o’clock the first condor landed. Still almost too dark for sharp motion pictures but with weak colored light there are other ways of attaining extraordinary pictures. It is one of these days when everything falls into place. After another 10 minutes a second condor landed and then there were condors eating, fighting and showing off no more than 40 meters away. The most of these large birds down at the same time was no less than eight Andean condors. After three hours I have the pictures I want and decide to stop for the day and we get back to eat breakfast. One of the largest birds in the world just in front of you leaves you with a fantastic feeling and also some astonishing pictures. 🙂
